CATCHING A RIDE

I used to think life could be shared with anyone,

but now I know choosing the right people is pretty important.

Why does spellcheck make me capitalize satan’s name? I don’t want to. It’s giving him too much credit.

I think satan exists, but I don’t give him a lot of thought. Neither does the Bible, honestly. We talk about satan way more than the Bible ever talks about satan. I remember hearing some religious people scare little kids saying things like, “If you listen to heavy metal music, you’re under satan’s power.” Or, “If you drink beer or smoke, then you’re under satan’s power.” I’d never say that to a kid because, first of all, it would make them want to listen to heavy metal music, smoke, and drink. And second of all, it would make it harder for them to stop because they’d be convinced they were under satan’s power.

When I think about satan, my thoughts go to how Jesus interacted with him in the desert. Jesus spoke with him for just a few seconds and then sent him away. Satan was a manipulator who wanted to control God, but Jesus had a relationship with God that satan didn’t understand, and Jesus had no problem telling him off and getting rid of him. I think we should do the same.

That’s all I have to say about satan. He gets too much airtime already.
